Overview
Jamie Somers is a Scientist and Physics PhD Student at Triniy College Dublin in Ireland. He has extensive research experience in the area of Optics & Photonics, and is currently part of a prestigious PhD programme which involves intensive research training programmes intended to produce leading experimentalists in the advanced characterisation of materials. The Centre for Doctoral Training in the Advanced Characterisation of Materials has been running since 2014 and is valued at £4.4 Million. Jamie has completed 4 internships ranging from producing python code which automates the process of mapping characteristics of transparent conducting materials to Spectroscopy probing the chemical reaction and molecular dynamics of photoswitches.
In 2022, Jamie won the Craig Lunte Scholarship which allowed him to spend the summer carrying out research internationally at the University of Kansas - an R1 Doctoral University with very high research activity. He also took WAYYY too many selfies with the ultrafast laser...
Jamie completed his B.Sc (hons) in Applied Physics at Dublin City University in 2023, his final year undergraduate thesis was titled "Simulating Laser-Induced Dynamics in Next Generation Photo-Acid Materials for EUVL". This work was carried out as part of the Costello Group and was an interdisciplinary collaboration between scientists in the physics and chemistry department. During this time Jamie learned to use High Performance Computing and a Quantum Chemistry programme called ORCA to simulate laser-induced dynamics on molecules of interest for Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography.
This website contains a lot of information about Jamie's research career as a scientist, including links to his research papers which are published in respectable peer reviewed journals as well as hosting the 30 lab reports he submitted during his time in undergraduate physics.
As part of his degree Jamie has taken multiple programming modules ranging from beginner to advanced. Jamie is proficient in various programming languages such as HTML, JavaScript, C++, PHP, SQL and Python. Jamie is a strong advocate for open source projects (and publications) and most of his code can be found on his Github repositories by clicking the statistics above.

In his third year, Jamie won a chemistry scholarship allowing him to gain international research experience as a scientist at the University of Kansas an R1 University in the United States.
Jamie Somers is a physics PhD student and Scientist at Trinity College Dublin studying nanophotonics. My PhD title is "Next generation 3D printed photonic structures" and involves the use of a non-linear optical process known as two photon polymerization. My PhD project is a collaboration between researchers at Trinity College Dublin, Imperial College London and University College London. The project is funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) as part of AMBER and is a Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) studentship.
Jamie Somers is a PhD Student in Nano-Photonic Metamaterials, supervised by Prof Louise Bradley at Trinity College Dublin and Co-supervised by Dr. Ali K. Yetisen at Imperial College London. Interested in Engineering Materials (primarily 3D Hydrogel Printed Photonic Structures).
Most of my website traffic comes from Ireland, followed by the United States and then the United Kindom. Since I am located in Dublin, Ireland I mostly want my website to appear at the top of the irish search results however in the future I would like to make content that appeals to a wider audience and gain a higher ranking in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Physics and Science in general is a topic with no borders and the topics I discuss will appeal to American and English visiters too.
